Save the date for the 5th annual Dia del Nino, a joyous festival which celebrates children. A traditional celebration in Hispanic cultures, it has become the signature event of CREER, a non-profit dedicated to children’s education and development. It is a day of activities for children, family and friends filled with fun, laughter and food in the lovely historic town of San Juan Capistrano.
CREER means “to believe” in Spanish. CREER believes in the power of the human spirit, in the power of community, in the future of our children as they become the leaders of our community. CREER’s mission is to develop children, youth and families through educational, cultural, health and sports programs. They partner with San Juan Capistrano Unified School District, the Chamber of Commerce, the Latino Business Council, Mission Hospital, Southern California Edison, Applied Medical, St Joseph Health System Foundation, OCCCO, San Juan Capistrano Mission Basilica, and many other local and county agencies and businesses.
Although this beautiful tradition is celebrated around the world, CREER is the first and only organization to bring this event to South Orange County.
Last year over 6000 people attended this exciting event. There were 80 booths of local businesses, human service and health organizations and community partners, many of whom will be coming again this year along with some new faces and partners. There will be games and activities for kids including bounce houses, games, face painting, a mini soccer field, dance lessons, musical chairs, coloring and a little library with free books. The food booths will include delicious homemade Mexican food and a sprinkling of snow cones, cotton candy, hamburgers and hotdogs, corn, and fruit, plus drinks from Agua Fresca to Pepsi. Buy a raffle ticket and win a prize. “Buy My Bikes” has donated a bike again this year and there will be other exciting prizes.
