The 2012-2013 St. Margaret’s Parent Teacher Fellowship Parent-Up Speakers Series presents Dr. Barry Sears, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller, “The Zone” and creator of the Zone Diet, and a leading authority on the dietary control of hormonal and inflammatory responses. Dr. Sears most recent work focuses on the very serious health risks of silent inflammation caused by “Toxic Fat” in our diets and as a result, in our bodies.
Dr. Sears will visit St. Margaret’s to talk with parents about the dangerous health issues we face with the American diet, food as a powerful tool to prevent heart disease, cancer and major illness, and overall healthy family nutrition.
Dr. Sears will address:
• Childhood nutrition and setting your children up for healthy lives.
• The dangers of processed food and its effects on our genes.
• Why we gain weight, get sick and age faster.
A former research scientist at the Boston University School of Medicine and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Sears has dedicated his research efforts over the past 40 years to the study of lipids. He holds 13 U.S. patents in the areas of intravenous drug delivery systems and hormonal regulation for the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
The impact of Dr. Sears’ revolutionary work in the dietary control of hormonal response began with the publication of his landmark book, “The Zone.” His 13 books on anti-inflammatory nutrition have sold more than six million copies in the U.S. and have been translated into 22 languages. Dr. Sears’ research has elevated food from more than simply a source of calories to being recognized as an exceptionally powerful drug with the ability to control the expression of our genes. Because of his revolutionary research, Dr. Sears has been a frequent guest on many national programs such as, 20/20, Today, Good Morning America, CBS Morning News, CNN, and MSNBC.
